This is a concept based on Phosphorus , Lucifer and is a puzzle that is devoted to a Black Flame inspired self-alchemy. Called devil-dance by some, this recording devoted to the extremes of rhythm and bleak lunar soundscapes will captivate and awaken something within the listener . Psychonaut 75 is the most recent incarnation of the ever-evolving monicker, under which gathered a quartet of musicians pushing the limits of gray magick muzak into new and previously unexplored depths. Psychonaut 75 is described as a Luciferian dark industrial - ritualistic - demonic - dance band, a manifestation of the Left Hand Path that seeks the development of the Black Flame within the listener. In 2001 the illustrious model and DJ Dana Dark and Tommie Vain joined Psychonaut and a Coven of oddly four individuals was formed, based on an equal sisterhood/brotherhood in Lucifer and the path of Dark Sabbatic Witchcraft and Chaos Magick. 75 was added as it is the Qabalistic number of Lucifer, the Morning Star. The band recorded the new album Stealing the Fire from Heaven : a demonic sound, added with heavy dance rhythms and ritualistic atmospheres with the layered sound of Dana and Michael playing human bones to evoke the shadows of the dead. The bands first live ritual, which took place on June 14th, 2001 was a Goetic ritual dedication to the evocation of Lucifer and the fallen angels, for each member to become a vessel for the archetype of the Morning Star, so that they may bring forth the dark spirits of the subconscious into flesh through musick. The ritual was climaxed with Dana and Michael pouring blood on their selves while using wands made of Human Bones to evoke the serpentine force of Phosphorus, the bringer of wisdom. The purpose of the Musick of Psychonaut 75 / Valefor is to activate resurgent atavisms within the subconscious, allowing the latent powers of the mind to surge forth and become essentially a useful tool for the awakened individual. One who is receptive to Sonic Black Magick will find their selves inspired, charged and full of creative energy. This energy is associated with Lycanthropy and such brainwave resonators from the Gamma Frequency associated with extreme alertness. Psychonaut 75 is a band, which focuses on the ability to create diverse, and varied areas of musick, manifesting various tones and sounds associated with PHI brainwave patterns. When M.I.T.B. met its demise Bastard Noise gained strength from its earliest audio offerings of caveman electronics and vocals. Since then Bastard Noise has evolved into its current contemporary status. The newest personnel to the Bastard Noise line up is John Wiese. John has existed as a member of Bastard Noise for the past two years and has helped to evolve the group into a predatory galactic monster by combining its original caveman electronic roots with its new atmospheric sounds. With 40+ releases in the Bastard Noise discography, Ground Fault Recordings is proud to present Descent to Mimas. Descent to Mimas is a good example of the evolutionary stages of Bastard Noise. The title track, Descent to Mimas, is a combination of the current atmospheric sounds and the original caveman electronics roots. Eric Wood, founder of MITB and Bastard Noise, destroys the microphone with his vocal hissing, squealing and growling brutality, which has carried over from the MITB days.

The next two tracks, Beneath Ice Skin and Lunar Nest Guard, are harsh, powerful, instrumental electronic pieces. The hand crafted Amps For Christ amplifier is featured on track two as we explore the icy surface of Mimas. Its crude circuitry seems to take on a mind of its own as it is carefully manipulated by its owner. The crunchy and gritty sounds of Beneath Ice Skin transforms into the frantic, code-red emergency of Lunar Nest Guard. Alarms are blaring as we find ourselves deep into the battle with the protector of

Mimas' space centipede nest. This track continually intensifies until its sudden and abrupt ending. The final track is pure, drifting atmospheric bliss. Clocking in at over 31 minutes, track four takes you on a somber journey as your lifeless body forever drifts through space nestled securely in your Space Coffin.

Being approached by Ground Fault to produce a CD led me to wonder what I would do: I surveyed various scraps of recordings around the house, things left over or half-finished, and speculated on possible scenarios, structures, and approaches. This process of selecting what to release and make audible to a wider audience is a process not only of 'making music', but also of 'contextualizing' oneself; the record label functions to disseminate one's work through its own structure acting as a vehicle that aids in determining the placement and identification of a work. This extends past distribution or packaging -- the label functions to 'identify' one's music according to the labels own identity, history, and interests, and further, to announce it as worthy of cultural attention. This question of context influenced my decision to focus on the Ground Fault label itself as the very source of my own release. Basically, I wanted to use the context, and the very works that have been produced through that context, in creating a work, so as to somehow 'sympathetically undermine' the label as a determining force by allowing it to forcefully determine the musical process

A much welcomed new release from this American artist who has produced some of the best recordings in the experimental music scene. Although this is a Series II recording, do not assume any of the power that Daniel Menche can marshal has been lost. Quiet at times, strong and full in others, this release constructs its moods with powerful bass pulses, full spectrum harmonic drones and vibrating tones along with the scratching, raspy organic textures that Daniel Menche is famous for. Each piece starts with simple murmurs and textures that build via harmonics, tones, and layering into a progression of sound and force. This is not the kind of album that you can turn on and walk away from. It is a full frequency listening experience. The deeper you delve the more you hear. Menche carefully assembles each of these recordings so that the listener can walk away with as much or as little as they like from each session. From the minimal to the multifaceted, each piece utilizes the same elements (drones, harmonics, bass, textures, electronics) but approach and achieve their goals in completely different ways. Menche gathers these composites and sounds into various end-constructs such as great walls of sounds or drop offs into echoed or bass thrum silence without ever losing control, missing a moment or overwhelming the listener. The changes are constant (sometimes slight), only pausing on occasion to build loops or momentarily settle before continuing the music's progress. Being much closer to October's Larynx and other recent works, he manages to finely balance this new "droney" style with the organic noise of old. In doing so, he has kept the power, passion and precision that has always existed in his recordings, making this CD an excellent listen

In a world becoming less and less real, I am (mainly) working on a level of utopian investigation : reality. Beyond a virtual mapping of the world, I go back to the landscapes of the real, within the geography of being. And I find out that, round the body, the microphone is breathing in all the energies of the shore, where ephemeral and eternal are grazing against each other. All sound fabrics are transmuting into a vibratory ground where both real and reality are slowly unfolding a landscape as yet unheard of. My works are then breathing out the musicality of these invisible reaches. And the listener is patiently taking in everything outside and inside as the Reality of a very same world. My work is looking for this frontier, at the threshold of reality and real, feeling as if there is somewhere else everywhere. Mine is mostly a search for sound, not music. Intuitive practice is what my sound experience is built upon. Beyond understanding, the world becomes infinitude, where intuition is taking in all energies, close or remote, without dualism. By becoming able to listen in such a sensitive way to everything around us, every day one is perceiving the world on the scale of what is, and no longer of macrocosm (that out-side of life) only. "The artist sees beyond the shape of things he perceives their secret essence, he acknowledges them as his own, he depicts them in such a way that we can acknowledge them within ourselves."

K2 - "In The Monotonous Flowers"  -  CD   Add to Cart
"The master of Junk Metal noise offers a completely different experiment with this Groundfault CD release. There is no outright sonic assault, no continuous crash of metal- on-metal within K2's In the Monotonous Flowers, (though the metal destroying K2 does make several appearances within this recording) this release showcases K2's approach to cut-ups and sound collage. This is a quieter (at times), more constructed look at sound using a variety of sources, from lo-fi to crisp and loud from effected music and found sound, to confused conversation and clamor. K2 shapes each piece by randomly bouncing from source to source, using panning, echo, and saturation to never let the listener's ear settle into a comfortable feeling for long if at all. The more successful recordings on this disk allow the sounds to finish or melt/transform into something new while remaining somehow connected either by tonality, effect, texture or placement. This CD contains 10 pieces of music constructed from the leavings and remnants of sound; some sounds give the impression that they were assembled specifically for this recording, while others are pulled from previous recordings from a variety of sources (field, records, etc). In the Monotonous Flowers is a detailed puzzle of sound assembled into 10 single pictures. However within the first few pieces the sounds seem to clash into each other more, and are presented in a greater disarray. Quiet spaces will be sharply broken by loud incongruous noises/sounds. They present more of a collection of fragments that jam into each other and collide for space within each recording rather than a progression of moments that have continuity. The edges of these first few offerings have been left unhewn and rough fitting in a way that keeps the listener unbalanced for the next note or creation. At times they seem to jumbled together and at others, they are much too disconnected. The progress is stunted and backtracks through each recording (creating a flow that is definitely not as linear or seamless as Contagious Orgasm's release on Ground Fault,) but starting with Track 5 on this CD, the ideas and cut-ups seem to solidify with a commonality that I can't exactly put my finger on. Perhaps it takes a while to adjust to the style and progression of this recording, but these later pieces seem to flow within each other to generate a bond between the sections. This allows the listener more time to absorb the various segments thrown at them rather than being bombarded by a random assortment of sonics. This is an excellent changeup for K2 and his style, as we get to see the "prog rock" fan in him take center stage."

Lionel Marchetti - Portrait d un glacier - CD   Add to Cart
Lionel Marchetti has blended field recordings with electronic drones and other sounds to create an incredibly dramatic recording. Recorded on the Glacier de Tré-la tête on Mont-Blanc, in France, at an altitude of 2173 meters we hear low rumbles, creaking, water splashing and sounds of footsteps crunching the icy surface all appearing out of the silence. Voices in the distance...a small propeller rescue plane overhead? Portrait d'un Glacier is a Series I release which puts it in Ground Faults quiet category. While most of the CD is relatively quiet, there are moments at the middle of the CD where things get a little nerve wracking. It's very cold, dark and dramatic. This is one of those CDs that is great to drift asleep to in a darkened room only to be awaken by the sudden "events" that occasionally happen.
